Abstract
A retrospective study of 1,073 cases of intraocular lens (10L) implantation since the first 4-loop intraocular lens implant in 1978 was conducted. Visual acuity, refraction, keratometry, photo-keratoscopy, BFE test, specular microscopy, tonometry, slitlamp examination and ultrasonic pachometry were routinely included in the preoperative and postoperative examinations for prospective study. Posterior chamber lenses accounted for 93.2% of all intraocular lenses implanted. The mean spherical equivalent of refraction (N=667) was -0.99D at 3months postoperative during the two years. A three month follow-up visual acuity of 20/30 or better was obtained in82% of the cases. The average endothelial cell loss was 14.7% in the posterior chamber lens implant group and 26.2% in the anterior chamber lens implant group resfectively at the three month follow-up examination. IOL-related postoperative complications such as iris-capture, IOL dislocation, posterior iris synechia, and pseudophakic glaucoma were minimal in number.
