Immobilization-Agglomeration Reaction for the Diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis Infection
Chung Pyung-Rim

Soh Chin-Thack
Abstract
The trichomonas immobilization-agglomeration reaction (I. A.R. ) was studied using the sera from the rabbits inoculated with cultures of T. vaginalis and from women with vaginal trichomoniasis.
1) The strong immobilization and agglomeration phenomena of T. vaginalis appeared after 20 minutes in rabbit antisera at the titre 1 : 16. All the organisms were disintegrated thereafter.
2) The inactivation of the rabbit and human antisera did not affect I.A.R.
3) Antigenic differences were confirmed by I. A. R. among T. vaginalis, T. hominis and C. albicans.
4) In human antiserum, the peak of I.A.R. appeared at 30 minutes.
5) The I.A.R. was positive in 80. 3 per cent of the 71 T. vaginalis positive cases, but 7.7 per cent of the 77 T. vaginalis negative cases. From the above results, it is suggested that the I. A. R. is a useful tool for the diagnosis of T. vaginalis infection.
