Treatment of Active Paragonimiasis in North Central Laos

Abstract

|
A review of 46 cases of active pulmonary paragonimiasis treated at the Ban Xon Hospital, Laos, from September 1971 through March 1973 is presented. Diagnosis was based solely on positive sputums. Twenty-six patients received emetin and chloroquine, and twenty patients received bitin. Results of treatment are given. The large refugee population that inhabits the Ban Xon area possibly introduced paragonimus to the water system, and the area is now endemic.
