Effect of Cortisone on the Phagocytic Activity of Peritoneal Macrophage and Pseudocyst Formation of Toxoplasma gondii in Mouse

Abstract
A sero-epidemiological study on human toxoplasmosis among neurologically and physically deficient groups in the Seoul area was carried out employing indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT). Throughout the study, serm titre 1 : 16 and above were regarded as positive for IFAT.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) Among total 166 mental patients, 16 cases (9. 6%) showed positive, and those were seen oily a mong schizophrenia cases, and the other cases were all within normal range.
2) Three (4.7%) out of 64 cerebral palsy cases showed positive titers, and they were spastic quadriplegia and progressive muscular dystrophy cases.
3) Among of 74 cleft lip cases, 21(28.4%) were positive. A much higher positive rate(38. 3%) was experienced in male than in female group (11.1%).
4) Among 104 maternal serum samples of prenatal care cases, 3 (2.8%) showed positive titers, but only one out of 76 cord blood specimens (1. 3%) from normal delivery cases showed IFA positive.
5) Four cases (3. 5%) out of 114 control sera revealed positive reactions. Among various groups examined, higher positive rates were seen from schizophrenia cases and cleft lip cases; but the other groups showed more or less the same rate with control group.
