Comparative Observations on the Intra-mammary Migration of Toxocara canis and Ancylostoma caninum Larvae in Experimentally Infected Mice
Min Hong-Ki
Abstract
In mice infected with T. canis or A. caninum experimentally, more number of larvae of T. canis were found in the abdominal wall, while the majority of A. caninum were found in the abdominal wall only at the earlier stage. Higher distribution rates of A. caninum larvae were recognized in the thoracic wall near or after the 20th day of infection. By the examination of microsections, infective stage larvae of T. canis were detected within the alveoli of the thoracic and abdominal mammary glands of mice infected at one or two weeks of pregnancy, but not in those of mice infected prior to gestation. On the other hand, larvae of A. caninum were demonstrated in the glandular cavities of the breasts in mice, infected by mouth prior to or during pregnancy. However, in case of mice infected by skin prior to gestation, no larva was found throughout the observation.
