Abstract
Bottom fauna of Hangang River was examined together with the physical nature of water during warm and cold season of 1978. From the down to upper stream, 14 stations were subjected.
1. Species found were Mastigophora 11, Sarcodina 18, Ciiophora 29 and Suctoria 3.
2. The diversity index was high in the place where dissolved oxygen was low and biochemical oxygen demand was high, that is in paralelling with pollution. The places where the index was high were; Mapo area 5.43, Anyang stream area 3.37, Yangpyeong area 2.86, Chuncheon area 4.51. The places where the index was relatively low were; Paldang dam 1.14, Cheongpyeong dam 0.38, Gapyeong area 0.48, Seo-myon of Chunseung-Gun area 0.85, and Chuncheon dam 0.87.
3. Biotic indices were high in Anyang stream area and Mapo area; 38.4 and 33.0 in summer, but much lower in upper stream areas reaching to zero.
4. The place where DO was low, then BOD showed high.
5. In the station of which the DI and BI were high, the number of bacteria and microflora were also abundant.
6. In saprobic water, the following genera were more abundant; Chromulina, Amoeba, Dogielella, Chilophrya, Enchelyodon, Loxophyllum, Paramecium and Euplotes..
From above results, it is concluded that indicator organism to estimate the water pollution is to be searched from among the genera listed particularly under Ciiophora.
