Abstract
|
|
|
Praziquantel (EMBAY 8440) was given orally to 53 Clonorchis sinensis infected cases in two dosage regimes; in 33 patients receiving 3 x 25 mg/kg of body weight on a single day, and in 20 patients receiving 3 x 25 mg/kg on two consecutive days.
The results are summarized as follows.
1. Egg reduction rates were; 99.4% in single day treatment, but 100% in two day course.
2. In single day group, 96.9% (32 out of 33 cases) showed complete egg negative conversion (complete cure), but 100% (20 cases) by two day regimes.
3. The clinical manifestations disappeared or notably improved after the administration.
4. Examinations on hematology, blood chemistry and urinalysis showed no abnormal findings by the drug administration.
5. Unwanted side effects such as epigastric pain, nausea, lassitude, headache were complained in 2-4 cases among the 53 administered, but were mild and transient.
