The Effect of Fast Mapping Program on Autistic Children¡¯s Vocabulary Acquisition

Abstract
This thesis is going to study how the fast mapping program works when the autistic children with limited vocabulary acquire acceptance vocabulary. Three children diagnosed as developmental disability were chosen as subjects to take AB design made up with baseline stage, intervention stage and follow up stage. The program consists of baseline assessment stage, vocabulary exposure stage, vocabulary comprehension stage, and vocabulary output stage.
Vocabulary tests conducted on the baseline stage, the intervention stage and the follow up stage were used to analyze acceptance vocabulary. The results of this study are as follows; children¡¯s acceptance vocabulary has been improved.
The results show that the fast mapping program affected the autistic children¡¯s language acquisition. The followings are suggested by this study. Firstly, a follow-up study is required to find out the effect of the fast mapping program on semantical language ability as well as vocabulary improvement.
