Abstract
The plasma LH and FSH responses to surgical stress were studied in parturients receiving general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia
Plasma gonadotropin(LH and FSH) concentrations were almostly unchanged in ; eneralanesthesia group 30 minutes after skin incision
In contrast to general anesthesia, Plasma gonadotropin levels in spinal anesthesia group significantly decreased (P<0.05), and plasma LH and FSH were markedly (P<0.05) higher in patients receiving general anesthesia compared with spinal anesthesia.
It is concluded that neurogenic blockade inhibits the pituitary anterior response to surgical stress.
