|
In the thoracic surgical field, use of ceftriaxone is very effective and is shorten duration of hospitalization.
The ceftriaxone is a 3rd generation broad spectrum semi-synthetic cepthalosporin. It has a high degree of stability in the presence of beta-lactamases and has a broad spectrum bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity against gram-positive and negative organisms. It¢¥s half life ranges from 5.8 to 8.7 hours.
A clinical study was performed using this drug for treatment of infectious diseases in 30 cases.
Total clinical and bacteriological efficiency rate was 76.7%, and adverse reaction were
noted in 3 cases (nausea- & vomiting, skin eruption), which was controlled without treatment. We concluded that ceftriaxone is a safe and effective drug in the thoracic surgical field.
