Many medical doctors & pharmacologists had been made great efforts for the establishment of steroid hormones, particularly in the field of adrenocortical hormones.
Among them, one of the distinguished rheumatologist. Dr. Hench has made a remarable results of steroid hormonel action on the rheumatoid arthritis.
Since that time, many researches were peformed on how to increase antiinflammatory action & how to minimize the sodium retaining action & reduce the potassium excreting action, as the effects were made on the variety of side effects during or after the cessation of steroid treatment.
More recently, Fried & Sabo in Squibb laboratory, established of Fleudrocortisone more than 10 times powerful anti-inflammatory action compared with hydrocortisone in 1953.
Thereafter prednisolone & prednisone were made & used on 1955 for the convenient therapy of powerful anti-inflammatory with minimum dose of 20-30 mg. /day, also minimum is the sodium retaining & potassium excreting activity.
Few years later, dexamethasone was established with more powerful antiinflammatoryaction (5:10 times)than prednisolone.
Para & Betamethasone were established for the purpose of the more minimize the sodium retaining & potassium excreting action with powerful anti-inflammatory action than prednisolone.
