Abstract
Purpose: One of the most common cause of olfactory dysfunction is chronic sinusitus. The aim of this study was to evaluate the intravenous olfaction test(Alinamin¢ç test) as a prognostic factor for olfactory improvement in chronic paranasal sinusitis.

Materials and Methods: We enrolled the 57 patients who underwent operative treatment for chronic sinusitis from February 2007 to August 2007 at Chungbuk National University Hospital. Patients were classified into 2 groups (normal, olfactory disturbance groups). KVSS ¥± test (Korean Version of Sniffin¡¯ Sticks ¥± test) was used for the evaluation of olfactory function. We compared various prognostic factors, such as CT score, age, gender, and Alinamin¢ç test between the 2 groups.

Results: The hyposmia patients were 27(47.4%) out of total 57 patients. The Alinamin¢ç test was found to have consistency with KVSS ¥± test statistically. The latent time and duration time of Alinamin¢ç test were found to have statistical significance on the prognosis of olfactory improvement. However, CT scores, Olfactory fissure score, age and gender had no influence on the prognosis

Conclusion: Alinamin¢ç test is useful method to differentiate the type of olfactory dysfunction and can be a good prognostic factor for olfactory dysfunction in chronic paranasal sinusitis.
