Abstract

M1 RNA transcripts synthesized from plasmids were analyzed and their effect on the Escherichia coli rnpB gene expression was examined to see whether the overexpressed M1 RNA transcripts affect rnpB promoter activity. Whereas abnormal M1 RNA transcripts were metabolically unstable, normal M1 RNA transcripts were accumulated. The accumulated M1 RNA transcripts showed no significant effect on the galactokinase synthesis directed by the rnpB promoter. This result suggests that M1 RNA itself might not be involved in the regulation of the rnpB gene expression for RNase P biosynthesis.
