Abstract

|
Expression of the apolipoprotein (apo-) E gene in different tissues is determined by several downstream regulatory elements. A hepatic control region is located 18 kb downstream of the apolipoprotein E. gene promoter. The hepatic control region contains all of the sequences needed to direct expression to the liver, but it requires the presence of a nonspecific enhancer sequence in the proximal promoter of the apoE gene for its action.
