Abstract

|
Kunitz-type trypsin inhibitor from soybean has been crystallized at room temperature using ammonium sulfate as precipitant. A crystal of dimensions 0.5 mm X 0.4 mm X 0.2 mm diffracted to 1.7 A Bragg spacing with X-rays from a rotating anode source. The crystal belongs to then orthorhombic spaced group P212121 with unit cell dimensions of a = 39.42 A, b = 58.08 A, and c = 96.35 A. The presence of one molecule in the asymmetric unit gives a crystal volume per protein mass (Vgj) of 2.75 A3/Da and a solvent content of 55% by volume. X-ray data, nearly complete to 2.2A Bragg spacing, have been collected from a native crystal.
