Abstract
The effect of albumin on glycerophosphocholine (GPC) metabolism in HepG2, swiss 3T3, and 3T3-H ras cells prelabelled with [Me-¢¥H]chohne was studied. The [¢¥H]choline was most actively taken up by the 3T3-H.ras cells and least taken up by the 3T3 cells. The 313-H.ras cells showed an unusual high incorporation of [¢¥H]chohne into [¢¥H]GPC and HepG2 cells showed an even higher incorporation of [¢¥H]choline into [1H]GPC than did the 313 cells. It is concluded that the tumorous cells (3T3-Kral and HepG2) more actively converted the choline derived lipid metabolite into GPC then nontumorous cells (3T3 and rat hepatocytes). Albumin simulated the [¢¥H]GPC release into medium in all of the three cell fines possibly by the cationic ligand complexing properties of the protein.
