Changes in Relative stability of Total Plastid protein and of Light-induced Light Harvesting Chlorophyll Protein Complex Apoprotein during Chloroplast Development in Euglena gracilis Z
Yi Lee-S.-H.
Abstract
The stability and turnover of the total cellular complement of proteins, as well as of fight harvesting chlorophyll protein complex apoprotein of photosystem H (LHCP H), were examined in fight-grown, dark-grown and greening Euglena. Under continuously labeled conditions, Euglena readily incorporate exogenously supplied phenylalanine. Pulse-chase experiments show that the total level of incorporated phenylalanine in the cells remains constant and that in the various subfractions of the cells, the level of radioactive labeling changes very little if at all. The newly-synthesized LHCP H apoproteins showed significant turnover during the early portion of the chase period in the dark-grown cells.
