Abstract
One known mechanism of translational regulation in eukaryotes is mediated by binding of Cat+/calmodulin to ribosomal protein L19. For better understanding of this regulation process, we have isolated and characterized a cDNA clone encoding a homolog of Drosophila melanogaster ribosomal protein L19. The cDNA, designated DM-2, contains a full open reading frame that would encode a protein of 203 amino acid. The amino-acid sequence deduced from the cDNA sequence is 74.1% identical to that of human ribosomal protein L19, suggesting the cDNA most likely encodes Drosophila melanWaster ribosomal protein L19. RNA blot analysis using DM-2 cDNA as a probe detected only one transcript of 800 nucleotides, which is present at the same level in both adult heads and bodies.
