M1 RNA transcripts synthesized from plasmids were analyzed and their effect on the Escherichia coli mpB gene expression was examined to see whether the overexpressed MI RNA transcripts affect mpB promoter activity. Whereas abnormal M1 RNA transcripts were metabolically unstable. normal MI RNA transcripts were accumulated. The accumulated M1 RNA transcripts showed no significant effect on the galactokinase synthesis directed by the mpB promoter. This result suggests that M1 RNA itself might not be involved in the regulation of the mpB gene expression for RNase P biosynthesis.
