Abstract
We examined the expression level of the Fas gene, which mediates apoptosis, and DNA fragmentation in the involution stage of the mouse mammary gland. Northern blot analysis and the reverse PCR showed that Fas mRNA was highly expressed in the involution stage of the mammary gland. These results suggest that Fas antigen may be involved in the involution processes of mouse mammary glands and imply that the involution of mouse mammary glands requires active gene expression. DNA fragmentation was obsened in the involution stages (6, 24, and 36 h after involution) of mammary glands. This suggests that the specific endonuclease(s) may be responsible for the DNA cleavage in the involution processes of mammary glands.
