A Study on the shear bond strength of porcelain repair resins to all ceramic materals according to the surface treatment

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of two porcelain repair resins to 3 ceramic materials: Celay alumina, Celay spinell, feldspathic porcelain. The two composite resins used PermaQuick system (Ultradent Inc., USA) and Clearfil system(Kuraray Inc., Japen).
The specimens were divided into six groups at random and the surface of the six groups were prepared as follows; Group 1: Feldspathic porcelain,. surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with Porcelain Etch for 1 minute. Group 2: Feldspathic .porcelain surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with K-etchant for 5 minutes. Group 3: Celay-alumina surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with Porcelain Etch for 1 minute. Group 4: Celay alumina surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with K-etchant for 5 minutes. Group 5: Celay spinell surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with Porcelain Etch for 1 minute. Group 6: Celay-spinell surface was roughened with a coarse diamond and treated with K-etchant for 5 minutes.
After surface treatment, each specimen was bonded with composite resin, thermocycled, and shear-tested on specially designed jig connected to Universial Testing Machine(Zwick 020, Germany).

The results were as follows:

1. The shear bond strength of the feldspathic porcelain was sighificantly higher than those of celay alumina and celay spinell.

2. There was no significant difference in shear bond.strength between celay alumina and celay spinell. 3. Clerafil system was more efficient than PermaQuick system in repairing of fractured ceramic.
