Abstract
The sciatic nerve is derived from the lumbosacral plexus. It contains nerve fibers from the ventral rami of spinal nerves L4 to S3. After its formation, it enters the gluteal region via greater sciatic foramen. After exiting pelvis, it passes beneath the piriformis muscle and goes down the posterior thigh. Not only does the sciatic nerve emerges from below the piriformis muscle, but there are some different variations of sciatic nerve which are classified into different types in relations to the piriformis muscle. We report atypical divisions of sciatic nerve on a 71-year-old female cadaver (type¥² of Beaton and Anson) with a brief review on the piriformis syndrome.
