Effects of Storage Temperature and Seed Moisture Content after Prioming on Germination of Tomato Seeds

Abstract

|
The influences of two drying methods and two storage temperatures of primed and imbibed tomato seeds on germination after storage for up to 4 months was evaluated. After priming, seeds were surface*dried at 20¡É for 1 h (42% moisture)and dried-back at 20¡É for 48 h (7% moisture). Storing the surface-dried seeds at 35¡É, resulted in a loss of priming effect. However, those seeds stored at 5¡É for up to 4 months still germinated earlier than the unprimed seeds. Primed dried-back seeds stored at 5¡É for up to 4 months, compared to unprimed seeds, or primed dried-back seeds, had increased percent germination at 15¡É and 20¡É. Storage of primed seeds at 5¡É than at 35¡É reduced T_(50) and increased percent germination at 15¡É and 20¡É. Repriming the seeds dried-back stored for 4 months restored the germination performance.
