Physical Therapy on Head and Neck Pain
Kim Chang-Hwan

Abstract
Approximately 50% of the population will have one or more episodes of neck pain. Moreover, the costs for surgical methods of treatment have escalated, driving the medical field to search for more effective and less costly conservative options. Physical agents have long been used as an adjuvant or main therapeutic agent for the treatment of head and neck pain. In this review, diverse physical agents are introduced with the theoretical and practical applications of electrical therapy, deep and superficial heat, traction, manipulation, and massage in the aggressive, non-operative management of musculoskeletal disorders. Prior to prescription of any modality, the physician must make an accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause of pain and dysfunction to direct specific treatment and rehabilitation programs aimed at efficient and cost-effective recovery.
