Varicose vein surgery remains one of the commonest surgical operations performed. Most common complications of varicose vein surgery are hematoma, neovascularization, pigmented skin, thrombophlebitis, ecchymosis and infection. Ablation of the vein by endovenous laser therapy is a newer procedure that is less invasive than conventional surgery and has a lower complication rate. We present a 78- years-old woman who has complained severe allodynia, burning sensation in left calf area after endovenous laser therapy. Plane X-ray, lower extremity doppler sonography and 3-phase bone scan did not show abnormal findings. Electrodiagnostic study revealed absent sensory nerve action potential in left saphenous nerve. With the diagnosis of left saphenous nerve lesion, local steroid was injected on the medial side of left knee which showed tingling sensation on tapping. Injections of local steroid has successfully controlled agonizing neuralgia.
