Objectives To investigate the effect of horse-riding type exercise bike on chronic low back pain.
Materials and Methods: A total of 30 patients with chronic low back pain were enrolled. All subjects were trained by MJ-2000 riding exercise bike 3 times a week for 4 weeks. The changes of back pain and functional status were assessed by range of motion (ROM) of lumbosacral spine, visual analog scale (VAS), and questionaries including Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Roland Morris Disability Scale (RMD) and Short Form-36 health survey (SF-36).
Results: After 4 weeks of training program, ROM increased significantly (p£¼0.05). VAS was reduced from 4.3 to 3.0, but not statistically significant. ODI and RMD scores decreased significantly, and SF-36 score increased significantly (p£¼ 0.05).
Conclusion: Four week exercise program using horse-riding type exercise bike is considered as one of the effective tools of therapeutic exercise for chronic low back pain patients.
