Abstract
Cervical interlaminar epidural steroid injection (CIESI) is a widely utilized nonsurgical strategy for the management of cervical radicular and axial pain. The technique has been shown to be efficacious in relieving the patient¡¯s symptoms. however, there are a range of possible complications associated with this procedure. Acute spinal cord injury after CIESI is very rare, but we experienced cervical cord injury during CIESI. A 51-year-old female patient suffered from paresthesia in the C6 sensory dermatome and radiating pain. she suffered from weakness and numbness of the right side extremity immediately during CIESI. A magnetic resonance image was obtained and demonstrated abnormal signal intensity in the right aspect of the cervical cord at C5-6. Conventional conservative care were allowed for the treatment her weakness and neuropathic pain. Although the motor weakness of her right leg, arm recovered sufficiently for casual activity, the neurologic symptom in her right hand remained uncomfortable for nearly 10 month, regardless of treatment. In a follow-up done, 10 months after spinal cord injury, she had recovery except of grasp, litter finger abduction weakness and intermittent paresthesia in the hand.
