Abstract

Posterosuperior impingement (PSI) is related to glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD) and posterior shoulder tightness which commonly occurs in shoulder injuries of athletes and is underestimated in the patients with posterior shoulder pain. In Previous studies, there is still conflicting opinions of the cause of PSI between the lesion of the posterior capsule and posterior shoulder muscles (posterior deltoid and infraspinatus muscles). We present three patients who had posterior shoulder pain and were suspicious of infraspinatus tendinitis which was supposed to be the cause of PSI. We performed ultrasound-guided infraspinatus paratendon injection to three patients and the shoulder pain, measured by visual analogue scale (VAS), was successfully managed after the injections. We suggest that infraspinatus tendinitis should be considered and infraspinatus paratendon injection could be a useful treatment in the patients with PSI.
