Abstract
Hypertrophic scarring after burns is a great concern for patients and a challenging problem in burn rehabilitation. Various tools are currently available for the assessment of hypertrophic scars. The Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) is a validated subjective scale, as is the patient and observer assessment scale (POSAS), which encompasses both patient and observer evaluations. Elasticity of the scar, ultra-sound images, laser doppler flow, color measurements, and three-dimensional systems for the analysis of hypertrophic scars are objective assessments of hypertrophic scars. Burn rehabilitation massage therapy can be one of the modalities for controlling post-burn hypertrophic scar pain, pruritus and the scar characteristics.
