Abstract

|
This study examined the effects of maternal and paternal attachment on children¡¯s media device addiction. The study sample was 1017 elementary school fifth graders (526 boys and 491 girls) who participated in the twentieth wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. The data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0 using Pearson¡¯s correlation and regression analysis. The results revealed that maternal and paternal attachment showed a significant correlation with children¡¯s media device addiction. Further, maternal communication, maternal isolation, and paternal isolation were predictor variables for children¡¯s media device addiction. These results can help develop a better understanding of mechanisms linking maternal and paternal attachment to media device addiction. These findings can serve as an important contribution to future research and practice with respect to reducing children¡¯s media device addiction.
