Abstract
Objectives:,/b> Adults who stutter (AWS) have negative feelings and attitudes toward communication, and agency can be an important indicator in such aspects. Although the Origin and Pawn scales can be a valid indicator of agency, little research has been conducted on possible difference between communication-related and general Origin and Pawn scores in AWS. The purposes of this study were to determine if there was a difference in the communication-related and general Origin and Pawn scores in AWS, and to provide validity information on the Origin and Pawn scales for Korean AWS.

Methods: Twelve AWS wrote about their communication experiences and the most interesting thing in their lives, and the writing was analyzed to reflect communication-related and general Origin and Pawn scores. In addition, scores of other measures related to agency, such as Subjective Screening of Stuttering, Locus of Control of Behavior, and Perception of Stuttering Inventory, were compared to the Origin and Pawn scores.

Results: Communication-related Pawn scores were significantly lower than the general topic Pawn scores. However, no significant difference was observed in the Origin scores and Origin-Pawn scores ratio between the two writings. In addition, significant correlations between Origin/Pawn scores and other measures were observed.

Conclusion: The results show that the negative communication-related attitudes of AWS are the result of natural responses toward their long stuttering history. Moreover, the significant relationships among the Origin/Pawn scores and other measures suggest that the Origin and Pawn scales are a valid indicator of locus of causality in Korean AWS.
