Athletes and fitness enthusiasts commonly consume dietary proteins to help muscle growth and recuperation. However, poor digestion and absorption of these supplements in the gut reduces their effectiveness. This in vivo study, investigates how a protein supplement is effectively digested and absorbed into the serum using a specific consortium of multi-species probiotics. Furthermore, we discovered that the proteolytic activity of probiotics regulates the key factors in skeletal muscle regeneration both before and after dexamethasone treatment. Our findings indicate the collaborative role of multi-species probiotics and dietary proteins in protein absorption and muscle physiology and the potential for use as a functional supplement to promote muscle health in aging populations, athletes, and people with muscle-wasting diseases.
