Analysis and Evaluation of the Theory of Health Belief Model Using Fawcett and DeSanto-Madeya’s Framework in the COVID-19 Vaccination Domain

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose:Considering the nature of the nursing field, the frequent application of the Health Behavior Model in nursing science, and the fact that few critical analyses of the Health Behavior Model’s ability to identify vaccination have been published, a systematic analysis and evaluation of the theory is necessary based on a thorough framework created for the nursing context. We used the 2013 framework developed by Fawcett and DeSanto-Madeya, which provided a thorough, methodical analysis of nursing theories, to analyze and evaluate the Health Behavior Model’s contribution to, and usefulness in COVID-19 vaccination research and practice.
Methods:We analyzed and evaluated the model using Fawcett and DeSanto-Madeya’s 2013 framework.
Results:The Health Behavior Model is significant for nursing and society, shows adequate internal consistency, and is parsimonious in predicting health behaviors. The Health Behavior Model may have important theoretical ramifications for nursing, if researchers link it to nursing theories and consider the study’s findings.
Conclusion:Because of the aperture between empirical data and the Health Behavior Model, methodologically sound studies are required to test theoretical hypotheses and evaluate its overall pragmatic suitability for promoting COVID-19 vaccination in nursing practice.
