Sublingual Immunotherapy for Treatment of Allergic Diseases
Park Seong-Ju

Abstract
Allergen specific immunotherapy is a medical long-term treatment that decreases symptoms for many patients with allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, conjunctivitis, or atopic dermatitis. Subcutaneous immunotherapy is the historical route of immunotherapy and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is currently considered a viable alternative to the subcutaneous route. SLIT is more easily administered in patient¡¯s home and has a lower risk of systemic adverse reaction as compared with subcutaneous route. This review will discuss the immune mechanisms, efficacy in several allergic diseases, comparative efficacy with subcutaneous route, and safety of SLIT.
