Abstract

Spiromety is required for the diagnosis of COPD. A ratio of postbronchodilator FEV1 to FVC less than 0.7 is the standard of the presence of airflow limitation. Recently, FEV6 is suggested as surrogate for FVC because FVC cannot be acquired easily, causes patients discomfort, and is less reproducibility. Handheld spirometry which is small, inexpensive and portable can measure FEV1 and FEV6, rather than FVC. In this article, we briefly review the usefulness FEV6 instead of FVC for the diagnosis of COPD.
