Abstract

|
|
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an established risk factor for the development of lung cancer, and lung cancer is the major cause of death in COPD patients. Although up to 39% of COPD patients are never smokers, there has been very limited information on the association between COPD and lung cancer development in this population. Using a nationwide database, a recent study showed that never smokers with COPD had a 2.67-fold increased risk of lung cancer compared to those without COPD, which captures the attention to the risk of lung cancer in never smokers with COPD. In this article, we provided a brief review on the issue about the risk of lung cancer in never-smokers with COPD.
