The purpose of this study is to compare of the number of colony unit by the infection control methods of alginate impression material. This study was conducted on 44 students of dental hygiene program in grade 3, their average age was 22. First, bacteria were collected from the oral cavity where the alginate impressions were made, and different disinfectants were used for each group. Bacteria from the alginate impression were collected and cultured. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to determine the difference in the number of bacteria in each treatment group. Mann-Whitney test was performed to determine the differences among the groups. PASW Statistics 18.0 program was used and the significance level was 0.05. The number of bacteria in the oral cavity was not significantly different. The number of bacteria in the alginate impressions was significantly different depending on the group. In future studies, it is necessary to determine not
only the number of bacteria but also the kinds of bacteria, and to draw more objective conclusions.
