Abstract

|
Hypertension is a leading cause of death worldwide. It is estimated that about one-third of the adult population in the world
have hypertension, and one-third (29%) of the adults aged 30 years and older in South Korea have hypertension. The
rapidly growing population of very old people may become a major health issue, leading to a big burden of chronic diseases such as hypertension. Here, we will update and discuss several issues related with hypertension, highlighting the importance of intensive blood pressure control, especially in high risk patients, by introducing the recent hypertension
guidelines.
