Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to understand and find out the meaning and essence of work experiences on short-term youth shelter counselors. For this purpose, eight counselors working at short-term youth shelter were proceeded with the in-depth interview. This study chose Giorgi`s descriptive phenomenology as a analysis method. The results of the study are as follows. The categories about counselor`s experience appeared 50 meaningful units, 12 sub-components and 4 components. The 4 components of experience on shortterm youth shelter counselors were `continuity of tension`, `decline in enthusiasm of counseling`, `poor surroundings`, and `discovery of potentialities as a professional counselor`, Based on these, this study`s recommendations were the necessity of training about the youth culture for working quality of youth shelter counselors, the need to improve the work environment, and improvement of social awareness about runaway youths.
