Easy-to-miss Lesions on Breast Ultrasonography: How to Find Them
Kim Hye-Jung

Abstract
Breast ultrasonography (US) is a useful diagnostic adjunct to mammography for diagnosis and management of benign and malignant breast disease. US is helpful in determining whether mammographic abnormalities, such as focal asymmetry, are true lesions or summa-tions and offers the opportunity for biopsy under US guidance. However, lesions showing the same echogenicity as surrounding tissue can be challenging. Improper US parameters can sometimes result in missed lesions on US. Meticulous evaluation using B-mode US in corre-lation with mammography is essential. Complementary tools for B-mode US include tissue harmonic imaging, US elastography, color or power Doppler imaging, and power Doppler vocal fremitus imaging. Specimen radiography after biopsy and needle localization can be helpful in confirming the adequacy of tissue acquisition.
