Abstract

Ultrasonography (US) is currently the principal imaging technique for medical imaging. US has been considered the gold standard diagnostic test for lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Triplex US including compression US, pulse Doppler, and color Doppler increases the accuracy of DVT diagnosis by approximately 100%. US has many advantages as a non-invasive, non-radiation, non-contrast, cheap, and repeatable device. Early diagnosis of DVT using US is helpful in rapid treatment, prevention of pulmonary embolism, and de-crease of chronic venous insufficiency. Significant experience of the US examiner is required for the exact and rapid diagnosis. US is essential for the diagnosis of DVT.
