The Establishment of Korean Surgical Infection Society and Its Aims and Scope

Abstract
The Korean Surgical Infection Society (KSIS) is an organization of physicians, scientists and other health care professionals that first met in 2011. The aim of the KSIS is to educate health care providers and the public about infections in surgical patients, promote research in the understanding, prevention and management of surgical infections and provide adequate guidelines to healthcare professionals for prevention and management of surgical infection. The KSIS has corresponding committees, which are responsible for planning, programming, education, publication, finance, surveillance, guideline development, insurance, public relations, and international affairs. Since 2011, many scientific meetings and symposia have been arranged. The KSIS conducted a research about surgical site infection surveillance in Korean hospitals and performed a systematic review and meta-analysis for preformed local guidelines for surgical site infection (SSI) in Korea, both areas are funded by the National Center of Disease Control in Korea. Another research project was performed for surveillance of operating room facilities for SSI prevention. In addition to member research, the KSIS will publish position papers and guidelines related to the treatment of surgical infection in an effort to communicate and educate the greater medical science and clinical community. The Society will promote and encourage education and research in the nature, epidemiology, pathology, prevention, and treatment of surgical infections and sepsis. The Society will pursue a policy of active co-operation with organizations and individuals concerned in all aspects of surgical infections and sepsis. In addition, it will promote friendship and cooperation among scientists of all countries.
