Topical management such as surgical wound irrigation and dressing is frequently performed during and after surgery to reduce surgical site infections. Although they are popular in every day practice, studies have showed different or often controversial results in various surgical procedures. The objective of this report is to review current evidences of the role of surgical wound irrigation and wound dressing to reduce surgical site infection.
