Abstract

Surgical site infections have been associated with deficiencies in sterile reprocessing of reusable surgical instruments. And sterile processing facilities range from small to large, highly complex environments. But the basic principles and workflow are the same. According to the 2018 Facilities Guidelines Institute Guidelines, ¡°Designing facilities that support the workflow necessary for safe sterile processing¡±, the one way, dirty-to-clean workflow is essential to preventing cross contamination in sterile reprocessing. Finally, for ensuring the one-way workflow, it is recommended that ¡°The two-room sterile processing facility shall consist of a decontamination room and a clean workroom that are physically separated by a wall containing a door or pass-through window.¡±
