Clinical Application of Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy
Oh Yoon-Kyeong

Abstract
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a radiation technique that has garnered recent interest and is being frequentlyused. IMRT is made possible using computer-controlled multileaf collimators, which are moved according to radiationtherapy planning. IMRT is a form of radiation therapy based on variations in radiation intensity within each beam, and itprovides optimal cover for tumors as well as spares critical normal tissues. Further, the major goal of IMRT is to reducetoxicity. Clinical evidence of level I provides rationale for whole breast as well as head and neck IMRT. Variable levels ofevidence exist for other tumor sites.
