Orthodontic Treatment for an Adult Patient with Class III Malocclusion, Facial Asymmetry and TMD Using Microimplant: A Case Report
Oh Byung-Cheol

Abstract
In adult patient with temporomandibular disease (TMD), precise diagnosis is needed before starting active orthodontic treatment. In some cases, patients with TMD also have centric relation (CR)-maximum intercuspation (MI) discrepancy. A 27-year, 1 month-old male patient had been referred due to malocclusion. He had TMD and CR-MI discrepancy. Anterior and posterior crossbite, facial asymmetry and midline deviation were also presented. The patient had Class III molar relationship on the right side, Class I molar relationship on the left side. Before active orthodontic treatment, centric occlusion (CO)-MI discrepancy was corrected using precision lingual arch to increase the intermolar width. Molar relationship and midline deviation were improved by distalizing the right side of the mandibular dentition. After treatment, his TMD was relieved, and the occlusion was improved.
