Abstract

A case report of a Class II malocclusion with an anterior open bite and vertical maxillary excess was presented. A 14-year-old female patient had a tongue thrusting habit, mouth breathing and centric occlusion (CO)-maximal intercuspal position (MIP) discrepancy with condylar anterior displacement. Mini-implants were used to intrude and retract the maxillary molars. Myofunctional therapy was actively instructed to the patient after obtaining positive overbite. After 34-month of overall treatment, open bite was improved with condylar repositioning and minimal CO-MIP discrepancy. To minimize the relapse, especially during the first year after treatment, interradicular mini-implants were remained and the patient was instructed to actively use retainers.
