A Consideration of the Self-adhesive Resin Cement as a Bonding Agent of the Lingual Appliance
Lee Young-Gyu

Abstract
Purpose: In this article, the shear bond strength between conventional bonding resin and self-adhesive resin cement will be investigated.

Methods: Twenty premolars which were extracted, divided into 2 groups and lingual bracket is bonded to the prepared surface. The first group was bonded with conventional bonding resin and the next group was bonded with self-adhesive resin cement. 24 hours later, the brackets were placed in a testing machine and subjected to a shear force.

Results: Mean values of two groups were compared with Mann-Whitney U test. The mean shear bond strengths of the conventional bonding resin were 5.24 MPa and of the self-adhesive resin cement was 5.79MPa. The differences between the groups were not statistically significant (p>0.05).

Conclusions: Self-adhesive resin cement has good shear bonding strength compared to conventional orthodontic bonding resin and it would be suitable as an adhesive of the lingual bracket.
