Purpose: This case report presents an adult female with a skeletal open bite who was treated with lingual appliances and buccal and palatal temporary anchorage devices (TADs).
Methods: Because the patient wanted an invisible appliance, we selected the Ormco 7th generation lingual bracket system for her treatment. To correct the anterior open bite, we elected to intrude the molars instead of focusing only on the anterior teeth. The second premolars, which had short roots, were extracted.Alignment and leveling were performed, and palatal TADs as well as a lingual MEAW technique were designed to achieve intrusive movement of the molars.
Results: Overall Superimposition of the pre- and post-treatment cephalograms showed that the anterior open bite was successfully closed. A Class I occlusion was achieved, and the overbite and overjet were corrected. 10 years after retention, her occlusion remained stable.
Conclusion: An acceptable treatment result was obtained by using lingual appliances.
