Abstract
Purpose: Th e aims of this study were to establish the norms of maxillary and mandibular skeletal transverse widths of Class I group and compare skeletal transverse widths among subjects with Class I, Class II, and Class III group according to Angle classifi cation in Korean adults using 3-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography (3D CBCT).

Methods: Th is study was performed using 3D CBCT images of total 222 subjects: 108 subjects in Class I group, 66 subjects in Class II group, and 48 subjects in Class III group. Th e linear measurements between right and left maxillares for maxilla and antegonions for mandible were calculated. Maxillary and mandibular skeletal transverse widths were measured with a digital caliper in InVivo dental program.

Results: In Class I group, maxillary skeletal transverse width was 65.90¡¾3.04 mm in male subjects and 62.00¡¾2.85 mm in female subjects and mandibular skeletal transverse width was 90.87¡¾4.51 mm in male subjects and 86.20¡¾4.18 mm in female subjects. In all groups, maxillary and mandibular skeletal transverse widths in male subjects were statistically signifi cant larger than those of female subjects (p<.05). Statistically signifi cant diff erences in skeletal transverse widths were not found among Class I, II and III groups irrespective of gender.

Conclusion: There were not statistically significant relationships between skeletal transverse widths and Angle classifi cation.
